Hiya,
Here's a quick minimix I threw together a couple of days ago
for the Thump Events guys.
A few mistakes here and there but don't worry about them...
Once again we're here to mangle your mind with bass by the pound and some serious breakbeat pressure! Oh yes sireeee, we've secured a monthly Thursday night in the newly opened Avenue Nightclub in saddlers court, Newbury. We'll be presenting the finest selection of underground dance music our hand picked DJ's can muster, starting each event with a breakbeat aperitif quickly followed by a side order of dubstep then lashings of drum and bass to finish.
The 36th Chamber working alongside Newbury Dubstepperz and Thump Events means you're guaranteed to hear the baddest local DJ's smacking down the hottest tracks of the moment, however keep your eyes peeled for the odd special guest or two in the future.
Entrance is free as always, however there is a dress code, details are posted here!
A free 19 seater shuttlebus has been organized for the Marketplace in Newbury where those with faulty limbs or extreme laziness disorder can catch a lift down the high street, and also look out for the Avenue team armed with flyers - some of which may be worth free booze to those lucky enough to get one!
A new genetically morphed kind of guestlist is in the process of materializing which will entitle those on it to a free beverage and queue jump, check the facebook group for more details of how to get your name on that...
Yo yo
Here's my latest mix, been ages since i recorded one at home, so i thought it was about time to kurb the lameness. Created with two turntables an a mixer like all proper an that..

Shaolin Drunken Monk - Drum n Bass Mix - 16th August 2009
Gonna be another Hard weekend for us hardcore party starters... Going to Glade festival tonight here's a few act's i'll be checking out over the next few days:
A Skillz , Prefuse 73, Baobinga & ID, Dr Bastardo, The Bays, Beardyman, The Qemists, Freestylers, Venetian Snares, Cut La Roc, Mr C, Finlay Quaye, Nitin Sawhney, Rusko, Benga, Skeewiff & Kraft Kuts. Also chuck a smattering of Drum n Bass on top of there as the got a dnb stage on Friday and Sunday this year!!
Tickets are all sold out, will be blogging from the site though, so keep checking back for evidence of how fucked I been getting lol.
Have a good weekend in Newbz all you non-festival go-ers...
Yes thats right Party People. Get your funkiest threads ironed so those creases are razor sharp, grab your novelty sunglasses and get yourself ready! I'm back in the Canal Bar this evening for a bunch of funksome tunes, a spot of hip hop and a dash of cutting. Music will be rolling between 9pm and midnight and as always its free to get in!
Got a bunch more Gigs lined up for the lucky people of Newbury this weekend!
The festivities kick off on Friday night at 9pm in the Canal Bar where I'll be supplying a variety of minty fresh beats until midnight. Expect to hear lots of random tunes, the odd eighties smash hit and the Imperial March off the Star Wars soundtrack!
On Saturday I've lined up a little birthday bash in the Bricklayers for my man, DJ Stasha. We're gonna be coming from a slightly different angle for this one, setting up somewhere in the region of 5 decks with the DJ's doing 2 hour sets, so expect things to get ridiculous! Thump promotions have kindly agreed to provide the breakbeats out in the Smoking Area, so there will be a flavour of music for virtually all tastes going on at some point throughout the evening. The curtain goes up at 8pm with final act finishing at 2am. Gonna be sickness!
And finally on Sunday, the Drum an Bass will be going down as it does every week. For one week only we'll be switching venue's to the Pig and Paper as the Critical State crew have drafted us in a for a rerun of the Bank Holiday mashup they held down there. We'll be back to normal - running it red in the Tap next week....
So I literally just got back from Barcelona 5 minutes ago, where I've been having it since Friday. We left Newbury at around midday and made it out there with the minimum of fuss, arriving at the hotel (which was plush-as-fuck!) around 9:30pm local time. Wasn't long before we were on road hitting a restaurant and then the bars and eventually ending up at a mental beach party in the early hours of Saturday morning. The debauchery continued throughout Saturday and Sunday only ending a few hours before 6:30am (5:30am GMT) when we had to rock back to the airport and return to normality... Barcelona is a banging city, I've been to a few spots in Espagnol in the past and Barca is definitely the best one by a fair distance, Go There Now! The people were all cool as fuck, the women are all Hot! and the weather was perfect making for a badass weekend all round. I missed so much sleep and am already back at work suffering, ugghhh, gonna sleep well tonite ya knowz. Here's a few random photo's I took on my wanderings....
OOh got lots of things lined up for the upcoming bank holiday weekend:
Friday Night: 9pm - 1am The Good, The Bad & The Hairy @ The Canal Bar ft. Special Guest Bongo Odyssey (Fopp, Nu Urban)
Saturday Night: (watch this space)
Sunday Night:
Bank Holiday Rinse Out - 2 Venues, 47 DJ's, 1000 million pints of Guinness!!
First and foremost The Pig n Paper is hosting their debut Drum n Bass event: Critical State from 8pm - 2am. Drinks Promotions will be running all night long. Gonna be one phat Party!!
Bank Holiday Rinse Out Part duex - The Return!
Yes The Tap n Spile, only a mere 20 paces down the road from the Pig n Paper, will also be running the Drums and Bass on bank holiday sunday between the hours of 8 and 11pm.
So if you get bored of the DJ in the Pig then pop along to the Tap and see if yer man in there is hittin it any harder. Should be a massive night all round!!
Hi there you lovely people, got a couple of dates for your diarys!
Firstly I'm playing up at the Global Cafe up in Reading town. I'm playing a Hip Hop set from midnight til 1am so come along and say hello if you're in the area! Entry is gratis and the vibez will be flowing just as freely...
And secondly I'm back in the Canal Bar next Friday (27th March) suffering from a multiple personality disorder! Things could get a little weird! lol
For those of you in town on Friday night this week...
For the final time until at least summertime i'm going to dig out a bunch of that 80's classic shit and smash it up down at the Canal Bar (not the final time i'm gonna play down there, just the last time i'm playing any 80's sets anywhere, for a while anyway) . I got three hours to fill though so will probably be beginning with a bit of funk an soul - a although I missed out on the Lee Dorsey tune I was hoping to get on eBay over the weekend cos I didn't check my computer. Anyway I did get a bunch of other stuff so it's all good, ya know how it goes.
Right then, to sum up: Friday Night. Canal Bar. Devastatin Gordy the Turntable Slave.
We're back on it! Sunday sessions are back in effect as of 21st September. Props to DJ Vapour on designing a wicked poster to accompany the relaunch down at Cuba. Clicky the title link for more info!
Saturday night was another heavy old 36th Chamber party. Phletch kicked off proceedings with a seriously bass laden dubstep set and got the bassbins buzzing before I jumped on and banged out some old skool classic hip hop tunage which warmed things up nicely for 3 Parts DJ to do what he was there to do. I must admit I made a slight detour to the hogshead about this time so I missed the whole of Skink's set and most of Vapour's too. But hey it was all good too so I hear.
"The difference between analog recordings (vinyl) and digital (CD's MP3's) is similiar to that of incandescent light bulbs and florescent ones. The former emits something natural and organic that resonates deeply with our inner psyche, the latter, while offering a techincally superior performance, retains a thin veneer of the artificial that fails to fully penetrate our senses, therefore making us unable to form as strong an emotional bond.
What pleasure is there to be had in clicking a virtual button with a mouse? Very little, really. Whereas the slightly precarious operation of placing a record on a platter and dropping the needle seems like a surgical procedure of a kind that most modern automation has tried to completely erase.
There's a wonderful sense of anticipation when you hear that nervous crackle of needle on fresh groove during the brief moment before the music kicks in."
Hip Hop @ The Canal Bar - Thursday 21st August 2008
Haha quality night once again. Thanks to all who came down and got involved especially Hasty, Enah and Diamond Sire. Also shout out to the guys from Banbury who came along for some heavy spitting.
Didn't manage to record the audio this time round unfortunately.
I managed to capture the higlight of the night on my phone:
Another banging night down in the tap this sunday night. Special guests this week were DJ Smoothie, and Dense (who bought his own headphones along for the first time ever! Kudos Dense!). Since we fixed up the soundsystem and got the extra speakers runnin a couple of weeks back the vibe has been wicked and the people are slowly getting to realize and coming along again.
The date was Thursday 17th July 2008. The venue was the Canal Bar in the Marketplace in Newbury and at precisely 9:30pm we arranged the turntables for maximum sonic effectiveness and commenced with the heaviest Hip Hop night Newbury has ever seen.
